Overview

High School Special Education focuses on K12-powered virtual high schools with personalized learning programs, engaging courses, compassionate teachers, and a vibrant school community. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for program structure and resources to maximize the special education experience for students and learning coaches, and for building relationships with families, students, and learning coaches to ensure progress through the program.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 0-1 year of related professional experience.

Passionate educators are needed at the Stride K12 partner school, Colorado Preparatory Academy (COPA). The mission of COPA is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience through school and community/family partnerships, a rigorous curriculum, and a data-driven, student-centered instructional model. This is a full-time position with typical hours and a home-office setup that supports professional work from 9-5 (or 8-4) as defined by the school.

Essential

Functions

  • Ensure all special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team
  • Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure that students with special needs receive appropriate therapies
  • Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state-required documentation
  • Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings (e.g., annual IEP meetings)
  • Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications (assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, accessible text)
  • Make modifications and accommodations to Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor progress toward IEP goals
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed
  • Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
  • Commit to personalizing learning for all students
  • Maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues, and basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment per academy policies
  • Travel up to 20% for face-to-face PD, student testing, or as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Active state teaching license
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • One or more years of teaching experience required to provide past performance data, including:
  • Teaching Certificate(s)
  • Transcripts
  • Performance Evaluations
  • Reference Letter(s)
Other Qualifications
  • Ability to collaborate with other teachers to interpret and use student data for instructional decisions
  • Willingness to receive coaching regularly
  • Ability to adapt to change to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word;
    Power Point
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with the proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in using technology
  • Experience teaching online or in a brick-and-mortar environment
  • Experience with online learning platforms
Compensation & Benefits

Stride, Inc. determines salary based on education, experience, qualifications, location, travel, market conditions, and internal value. Offers are typically in the bottom half of the salary range and may include a bonus; compensation varies with factors listed and with benefits elections. Typical range considerations are provided, but not guaranteed.

Note: Exempt (salary) status with typical range approximately $54,555.00 - $68,194.00; health benefits, retirement contributions, and paid time off may be included according to eligibility.
