Overview

Department: Div Strategic Enrollment Management
Department Summary: The TRIO Student Support Services department in the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success is searching for a TRIO Project Advisor. The TRIO SSS/Classic Project Advisor provides intentional support services relevant to academic advising, career and graduate school exploration, personal well-being, cultural enrichment, and financial literacy education to assigned first-generation, low-income, and disabled students who participate in the TRIO Student Support Services programs.
Duties & Responsibilities- Student Advising (45%):
Provide exemplary advising services, as outlined in the grant proposal, utilizing intrusive advising methods to support student success and increase both student retention and graduation rates for program participants.- Consistently communicate with students throughout the semester regarding their personal and academic goals.
- Effectively utilize the university student success management system
- Collaborate with university advisors to enhance services available to the students.
- Create a supportive and inclusive environment for eligible students.
- Programming (30%):
Provide relevant programming supporting the grant objectives to eligible participants.- Assist in identifying, recruiting, and selecting program participants.
- Coordinate and execute workshops/events for program participants to support and enhance grant objectives (i.e., academic enrichment, professional development, financial literacy, graduate school preparation, cultural enrichment, and personal well-being).
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance program offerings.
- Ensure students receive current content relevant to program offerings.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations of program offerings to assess student engagement and program effectiveness.
- Summer Programming (20%):
Provide relevant summer programming supporting the grant objectives to eligible participants.- Spearhead the TRIO-specific recruiting and content for the Summer Scholars program.
- Coordinate Weeks of Welcome TRIO programming.
- Find and coordinate summer internship and research opportunities in conjunction with career services, academic departments and the newly forming internship office.
- Prepare students for application processes and work environments for summer internship and research opportunities.
- Professional Development (5%):
Engage in professional development to enhance job-related skills and remain knowledgeable of best practices and policy regarding higher education, student success, and TRIO initiatives.- Participate in state, regional, and national TRIO associations.
- Remain informed of research and best practices associated with first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities success.
- Remain informed of research and best practices associated with higher education professionals
- Volunteer on university-wide committee(s) as a representative of FG/LI undergraduate population
- Additional tasks identified by the program director
- The TRIO Project Advisor is a restricted position funded by US Department of Education grant funding. Continued employment is dependent upon continued funding.
- This position regularly meets and engages with students in-person. While virtual options are available, work will primarily be conducted on campus, in-person.
- This is an in-person, student facing position with some options for remote work. This would be a maximum of 2 days of remote work when needed.
- Some evening and weekend work will be needed as well as some travel requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Proficient computer skills (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Data entry technology, social media, Internet, and Search engines).
- Demonstrated organization, interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to foster leadership, study skills, team building exercises, and confidence building.
