ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS AND POSITIONThe California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) deliver online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily & log attendance (entered by their parent/learning coach and verified by the teacher). The mission of California Virtual Academy is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience for students by incorporating school and community/family partnerships coupled with a rigorous curriculum along with a data-driven and student-centered instructional model.
Student success will be measured by valid and reliable assessment data, parent and student satisfaction, and continued institutional growth within the academic community.
Full time Employees work Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during contracted hours. Full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system. We do participate in CalPERS. SummaryThe Attendance Advocate is dedicated to helping students and families maintain compliance while attending school. The position helps foster a high-touch approach to educational support and exhibits superior customer service skills, along with a commitment and desire to provide the best possible experience for students and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manages and assists assigned student caseload who need additional guidance or assistance to become compliant with attendance or other non-compliant concerns, by forging a relationship with positive reinforcement that fosters the desire to return to the school community and get back on track.
- Supports the school wide attendance compliance process, holds non-compliance calls with families, and monitors student attendance daily through reports. Communicates with administration on compliance and cumulative nonattendance concerns.
- Participates in Strong Start supports including orienting new students to the virtual school programs, creating videos, Strong Start Family meetings, onboarding and other items designated as part of the program; monitors student participation; coordinates with the team for the delivery of these sessions.
- Maintains detailed documentation on each student.
- Develops systems to track and manage accountability and compliance information, including but not limited to attendance, compliance paperwork and reports, unable to contact, testing attendance and participation.
- Supports students and learning coaches throughout the Tiers II – IV in the FAST program related to compliance.
- Collaborates with the Compass Team, counselors, teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to ascertain students’ academic needs and create a Back on Track (BOT) plan for students related to compliance.
- Holds office hours to support students and their families with any questions they may have.
- Develops and presents training to help students and parents understand the school's compliance and requirements.
- Communicates & educates students and parents to recognize the need for healthy home/school relationships.
- Communicates with parents as needed; this includes but is not limited to calling, emailing and texting students and parents.
- Meeting students and parents in Blackboard Collaborate.
- Returns all communication ASAP but no longer than 24 hours.
- Communicates with teachers and administration regularly.
- Must attend all in-person meetings, staff meetings, and K12-sponsored trainings/meetings as scheduled.
