Position: FIDE Chess Trainer - Part-Time, gt.school (Remote) - $37,500/year USD

Overview

You did not invest years building genuine chess credentials to focus on entry-level instruction. You seek students who are attentive, challenge ideas, and return with greater determination. You aim to develop champions. If this resonates with you, this position is a strong fit.

GT School serves academically gifted K–8 students seeking high-stakes learning experiences rather than casual enrichment activities. This position is designed to transform talented players into self-assured competitors who deliver results under pressure. You will facilitate live virtual workshops, deliver tournament-preparation coaching, and develop scalable training materials that elevate standards across GT Anywhere and GT campus locations.

This is not a conventional chess tutoring position. GT recruits accomplished competitors, not general-purpose instructors. You will engage with driven students, well-defined skill tiers, and quantifiable objectives. Strong performance in this role is evidenced by rating improvements, enhanced decision-making under time constraints, and tournament outcomes that families value.

If you possess elite chess accomplishments, can deliver clear instruction on camera, and wish to guide the next generation of competitive players, we invite you to apply.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Facilitate 2–4 live virtual domain workshops weekly (60–90 minutes each) covering advanced strategy, tactical execution, and competitive play patterns
  • Evaluate individual student proficiency and adjust teaching approach so each session is challenging, engaging, and builds student confidence
  • Prepare students for upcoming competitive events through simulated matches, game analysis, and tailored development plans
  • Monitor student advancement relative to established benchmarks and leverage game data to identify high-impact areas for improvement
  • Develop reusable curricula, puzzle sets, and strategic resources that other domain specialists can implement with consistency
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Deliver introductory lessons for casual learners that lack competitive objectives
  • Dedicate time to administrative meetings or navigate cumbersome organizational processes
  • Provide standardized, undifferentiated coaching that disregards individual student goals and competitive schedules
  • Operate without measurable impact—documented results and progress are essential
