Position: Part-time Faculty: SOC 102 Social Problems (Online Summer 2026)
Location: City of Syracuse

Overview

The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University seeks 2 part‑time instructors to teach open sections of Sociology 102 ONLINE – Social Problems – Summer 2026 (3 credits).

Course Description

This course focuses on the application of sociological theory and methods to identification, description, and analysis of contemporary social problems. Critique and analysis of alternative strategies for social change.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of an MA in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
  • Preference will be given to ABD and PhD level candidates from our program and others who have previously taught for us.
  • Evidence of effective teaching is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop a class syllabus.
  • Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Post appropriate class materials online.
  • Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
  • Maintain regular and timely communication with all students.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Submit completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University guidelines.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
