About Us:

Oakfield Short Stay Primary is a dynamic and vibrant 30-place pupil referral unit. We are dedicated to ensuring every child achieves success and realises their potential. Our primary school operates across two bases, providing a supportive and engaging environment for pupils who join us following a permanent exclusion or dual registration.

Role Overview

As a Class Teacher at Oakfield Short Stay School, you will be central to our mission of supporting and inspiring learners with Social, Emotional and Mental health (SEMH) and Communication and Interaction (C&I) needs. You will teach a small group of pupils, delivering a creative, engaging curriculum designed to capture interest, build confidence and support meaningful progress. Once established in post, there will be opportunities to contribute to outreach work across the county, working alongside mainstream settings to observe pupils, offer professional guidance and support the maintenance of placements.

This aspect of the role will involve acting as a Local Authority officer, providing practical recommendations and tailored strategies to meet pupils  needs in inclusive environments. An enhanced with barred list DBS check is required for this post. For information on our approach to the recruitment of ex-offenders, please see our policy statement.

We are keen to support employees to balance their working life with other commitments. Wherever possible, we will consider working arrangements that suit an individual s personal circumstances whilst still meeting the needs of the Council. If you would like to discuss the possible flexible working options that might be applicable to this role, please contact the person named below. This may include requests for term-time working, part-time hours, compressed hours, flexible start and finish times, home/remote working, etc.

Responsibilities
  • An inspiring teacher who takes responsibility for planning, preparing and delivering engaging, high-quality lessons to a small group of learners, recognising and responding to differing levels of ability and needs.
  • A person with an ability to create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment that motivates learners, builds confidence, and fosters a positive attitude and lasting love for learning. Equipping pupils with the skills they need to successfully transition into their next school placement.
  • Experience working with children and young people who present with SEND, SEMH and C&I needs is essential, demonstrating a commitment to inclusion and belonging, ensuring all pupils feel valued and supported.
  • We welcome applications from passionate teachers who can bring additional curriculum strengths- such as sport, art, music or other creative disciplines to enrich our provision.
  • The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with strong leadership skills and the ability to lead and inspire a team through upholding our core values of Resilience, Respect, Reflective and Remarkable.
  • Many of our pupils present with challenging behaviour and we are seeking someone who can demonstrate empathy, emotional intelligence and a genuine ability to build meaningful, trusting relationships with learners who have complex needs.
  • We are looking for a candidate with a proven willingness to engage with professional development, alongside teaching responsibilities. In time, the successful candidate will provide outreach support, observing pupils in various settings and offering tailored recommendations and advice to support inclusion in our mainstream primary schools.
