You did not dedicate years to building legitimate chess credentials just to cover foundational moves. You seek students who engage actively, challenge ideas, and return with determination. You aim to develop champions. If this resonates, this position is for you.
GT School serves gifted K–8 learners who demand high-stakes education rather than casual supplemental programs. This position is designed to transform talented players into assured competitors capable of performing under pressure. You will facilitate live online workshops, deliver tournament-oriented coaching, and produce scalable training materials that elevate standards across GT Anywhere and GT campuses.
This is not conventional chess instruction. GT recruits accomplished competitors, not general educators. You will engage with driven students, defined proficiency tiers, and concrete objectives. Excellence in this role is reflected in rating improvements, enhanced decision-making under time constraints, and tournament outcomes that families value.
If you possess elite chess accomplishments, can instruct effectively on camera, and wish to guide the next wave of champions, we want to speak with you.
What You Will Be Doing- Facilitate 2–4 live online domain workshops weekly (60–90 minutes each) covering advanced strategy, tactical concepts, and competitive patterns
- Evaluate individual student proficiency and adjust teaching methods so every session challenges, engages, and builds confidence
- Prepare students for upcoming competitions through practice matches, game review, and tailored development plans
- Monitor student advancement using benchmarks and leverage game data to address the most critical skill gaps
- Develop reusable curricula, puzzle sets, and strategic resources that other instructors can deliver with consistency
- Deliver introductory lessons for casual learners that lack competitive focus
- Allocate time to administrative meetings or navigate slow, multi-layered processes
- Provide standardized, inflexible coaching that disregards individual student goals and competition schedules
- Operate without evidence of effectiveness—measurable outcomes and growth define success
Key Responsibilities
This role ensures that gifted K–8 chess students achieve competition readiness and secure tangible tournament results that validate GT School's real-stakes commitment to families.
Basic Requirements- Documented elite chess accomplishment (FIDE title, national/state ranking, high rating, or significant tournament victory)
- Minimum 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with demonstrable examples of student progress
- Capacity to explain advanced principles in accessible language that gifted K–8 students can implement in matches
- Effective virtual communication skills and proficiency in conducting engaging sessions via video
- Availability for 5–10 hours weekly
- Dependable internet connection and professional video equipment appropriate for live teaching
- Willingness to supply credentials or portfolio for verification purposes
