You have built expertise in persuasion. Now you will prepare talented students who are determined to win—not simply improve their speaking skills. If you bring proven debate credentials and can coach effectively under pressure, this opportunity will suit you well. GT School develops high-achieving learners through authentic competition. Students participate in established circuits, secure wins that strengthen their portfolios, and demonstrate measurable capability.
This position focuses on converting potential into performance: refining arguments, strengthening tactics, improving delivery, and advancing more students to finals. You will lead live virtual sessions, prepare students for designated formats (such as Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas), and develop curriculum that can be reused by other instructors. This is not an informal enrichment offering. You will be evaluated on outcomes and empowered to instruct at an advanced level.
If your goal is to share expertise earned through experience, build confidence in gifted K–8 learners, and contribute to developing future champions, we are interested in speaking with you.
- Lead 2–4 live virtual debate sessions per week that are dynamic, participatory, and centered on active student debate practice
- Prepare tournament‑ready students using mock rounds, targeted drills, and individualized feedback specific to their format and approach
- Deconstruct sophisticated argumentation, cross‑examination techniques, and rebuttal tactics into structured, learnable components
- Support research and evidence development so students construct more compelling cases that reflect current topics and competitive standards
- Develop and improve reusable instructional materials, topic summaries, and evaluation rubrics that elevate program quality
- Deliver general public speaking or confidence‑building classes disconnected from measurable competitive results
- Conduct lecture‑based sessions where students remain passive observers rather than active participants in debate
- Provide generalized feedback that disregards judging standards, scoring systems, and format‑specific tactics
- Produce single‑use resources that cannot be adapted or that lag behind evolving topics and competitive expectations
Key Responsibilities
This position ensures that gifted K–8 students regularly achieve documented debate competition victories and finalist rankings that validate GT School's real‑stakes educational model.
Basic Requirements- Documented elite debate accomplishments (awards, rankings, finalist positions) and/or a demonstrated history of coaching victorious students or teams
- A minimum of 6 months in teaching, coaching, or mentoring roles with demonstrable results
- Comprehensive understanding of competitive debate structures, judging standards, and tournament protocols
- Capacity to deliver compelling, on‑camera virtual instruction with strong screen presence and clarity
- Availability to contribute 5–10 hours weekly in a completely remote environment
- Dependable internet connectivity and professional‑grade video and audio equipment
- Portfolio, outcomes, or certifications that verify competitive debate background
