OverviewThe Adjunct Instructor (Online Contract) works under the supervision of the Program Director and is responsible for assigned instruction and the evaluation of students in the delivery of distance education courses. The AI is accountable for student outcomes and acts as a resource for students providing support, remediation, and referral as needed. The AI shall maintain professional competence in their specific discipline through such activities as practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing.
The AI participates in community and institutional service activities which contribute to the mission of RHS and RCHS.
Essential functions are fundamental job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities that are necessary to perform the position. For all College Instructor and Staff positions, standards are intended to apply to all educational delivery methods residential, blended and/or distance as feasible. (Contract positions are scheduled semester-by-semester and paid per-credit hour as described on the instructor's written contract agreement.) In the RN-to-BSN Program, Contract Adjunct Instructors are 100% Remote.
Whatyou will do
- Complete required instructional scholarly activity & professional development to include 2 activities related to Distance Education, 2 activities in the instructor’s professional discipline, 2 activities directly related to teaching, and 1 activity related to instructional simulation (simulation requirement not applicable to Online Contract faculty)
- Perform activities in support of learning including instructional design, delivery (both residential and distance delivery methods), assessment, course and student management, and academic advising
- Maintain accountability for program, student, and graduate outcomes for course pass rates
- Masters Degree, Nursing or specific discipline related to the course contracted to teach (Required) or
- Doctoral Degree, Nursing, Education, or related field (one graduate degree must be in Nursing if teaching nursing specific courses)
- 3-4 years of recent (within last 5 years) clinical experience or teaching in the specified field or a combination of the two prior to hire date (Required)
- clinical or practical experience in the area being taught (Preferred)
- Formal didactic teaching experience (Required)
- Online, distance education teaching experience (Preferred)
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) only for faculty teaching nursing specific courses (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Preferred)
