Overview
The College of Liberal Arts Department of Music seeks a Term Instructor of Piano to join the team on the University of Alaska Troth Yeddha campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Department of Music has approximately 50 majors, offering a BA in Music, a BM in Performance, an MB in Music Education, and an MM in Performance. The department is creatively active, with nearly 100 musical events scheduled in a given semester, ongoing community outreach, and a vibrant and diverse student community.
Responsibilities- Work as a team member within the Music department and the College of Liberal Arts to fulfill a bi-partite workload of teaching and service.
- Teach 2-3 courses per semester in Functional Piano and Fundamentals of Music, with the possibility of additional courses in Class Piano, music history, or music theory, depending on the department’s needs, and fulfill various service obligations within the academic year.
- Teach in both face-to-face and online modalities and use instructional technologies in courses as needed.
- Focus on accompaniment activities, including preparing music and rehearsing with students, faculty, and guest artists; collaborate with students and colleagues in a small, close-knit department that values teamwork, respect, and mutual support.
Minimum Qualifications: MM in Collaborative Piano, Piano Performance, or similar degree. Graduate or Teaching Assistant experience of at least two years in piano accompaniment or collaborative piano.
Preferred Qualifications: DMA in Collaborative Piano, Piano Performance, or similar degree. Experience in teaching piano for non-pianist music majors, and in accompanying and coaching professionals and students.
Position DetailsThis position is located on the Troth Yhedda' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. It is an on-site, full-time, 9-month term faculty appointment with a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package.
