Working Title:

BSW Adjunct Faculty Pool 2026-27 — Portland Campus and BSW Online Program Option (External). Department 242101 - SSW BSW Program. Position Number D97732. Representation: AP - AFT, Local 3571.

Position Summary

The PSU School of Social Work (SSW) envisions a world where all people lead fulfilling lives in affirming, just and equitable communities. Rooted in justice, relationship, and community collaboration, PSU SSW advances knowledge and creates social change through teaching, research, practice, and advocacy. Our core values and beliefs include collective care, responsive learning, knowledge that serves, community partnership, and social change.

The SSW provides accessible interdisciplinary educational opportunities and actively works to bring about structural change through its teaching, training, workforce development, research, and advocacy. The SSW includes three undergraduate majors: BSW, Child, Youth, and Family Studies, and Human Services, and two graduate programs: MSW and PhD.

Established in 2008, the PSU BSW Program is the only CSWE accredited undergraduate social work degree offered in a public institution of higher education in Oregon. PSU’s BSW Program emphasizes critical thinking, innovative pedagogy, anti-oppressive, equity-aligned, and transformative social work practice. Instructors who demonstrate an interest in and ability to realize the mission, values, and vision of the SSW and the BSW program are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those with knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to racial equity, healing-centered liberation and abolitionary practices, decolonizing and indigenizing, transformative and restorative justice, and critical, anti-oppressive, and social justice-oriented frameworks.

We are committed to hiring a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. Persons with lived experience from communities of color, women, persons with disabilities, low-income communities, veterans, LGBTQ community members and members of Oregon’s nine federally recognized Indian tribes are encouraged to apply.

This position is open to instructors interested in teaching in Portland, Oregon, and/or in our online (asynchronous) program. Our greatest need is a more robust pool of adjuncts teaching in-person, on campus in Portland. Each academic year, there is a need to hire adjunct faculty to teach. While there is no guarantee that a course you are interested in and qualified to teach is available, we often seek qualified instructors to teach across the curriculum who have experience and/or a strong interest in working with the communities in the state of Oregon and its surrounding areas.

The BSW Program will collect applications on an ongoing basis to fill vacancies throughout the academic year. Review of applications occurs as new sections or instructors are needed.

Seminar and Liaison positions require: two or more years in combination of the following: practicum liaison; or BSW/MSW practicum instructor; or staff supervisor; or social work educator, trainer or community member in service to social work higher education.
