Overview
Please note this is a fixed term, term time only contract. Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to overcome barriers and reach their full potential? We are looking for a dedicated, empathetic and compassionate Children and Young People's Learning Skills Mentor to join our Engagement and Attainment Service, working with vulnerable learners who have Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties in Ceredigion schools to build on their educational experiences.
This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people who experience difficulties with emotional regulation, social interaction, and behavioral challenges. As a Skills Mentor, you will be a consistent and safe adult in their lives - someone they can trust, connect with, and rely on. You will work closely with schools, families, and other professionals to provide tailored support that promotes engagement, wellbeing, and educational attainment.
Your role will involve building strong, respectful relationships with learners, School staff and partners, using trauma-informed and creative approaches to help them develop the skills they need to thrive.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with learners, school staff and partners.
• Support learners in managing their emotions, improving their social confidence, and navigating challenges both in and out of school.
• Employ trauma-informed and creative approaches to promote engagement, wellbeing, and educational attainment.
• Be a consistent and safe adult in the lives of learners, providing reliable support and guidance.
• Collaborate with schools, families, and other professionals to plan and deliver tailored support.
• Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with complex needs.
• Ability to support behavior positively, relationally and constructively.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Flexible across different settings and able to build effective partnerships.
• Commitment to inclusion and safeguarding.
• This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (Enhanced DBS). Presence of previous convictions will not necessarily disqualify a candidate; applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis with regard to responsibilities of the role. Your privacy and dignity are important throughout the recruitment process.
Safeguarding and DBSWe are committed to safeguarding and protecting children and adults s role will require an Enhanced DBS check. We assess each applicant on a case-by-case basis, and take into account the nature and relevance of any convictions in relation to the responsibilities of the role.
