Salary Range: $100 per instructional hour

Position Description

About UCR University Extension: The continuing and professional education division of the University of California, Riverside, offering programs and certifications to domestic and international students.

Position Overview: UCR Extension seeks an artificial intelligence practitioner to deliver university-developed curriculum in AI on a part‑time basis. The role supports the Professional Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence. Courses cover AI, machine learning, and deep learning, including data preparation, model training, and deployment. Classes are 10–12 weeks long on the quarter system, with additional short‑term options.

Courses Include:

  • Artificial Intelligence:
    Principles and Techniques
  • Data and Data Preparation for AI
  • AI Practicum (project‑based)
  • Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (short course)
Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in accordance with the established instructional agreement, curriculum outlines, and class schedule provided by University Extension.
  • Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline grading policies.
  • Work with collaborative partners and subject matter experts to keep course content current.
  • Participate in scheduled orientations, meetings, and mandatory training programs by UCR's deadlines.
  • Maintain timely and accurate academic records within the learning management system and submit required documentation as outlined in the Instructional Agreement.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct.
  • Familiarize yourself with and follow UCR Extension's Instructor Manual and Curricular Guidelines.
  • Respond to student questions and learning needs promptly.
  • Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in AI.
  • Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner, including hiring paperwork, updated syllabi, instructor contracts, textbook orders, and AV/classroom needs.
  • Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies to engage our international audiences.
  • Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and reinforce learning.
  • Update materials periodically and monitor course evaluations to make curriculum adjustments and improvements.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Extensive background and current work experience in artificial intelligence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Additional Qualifications
  • Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity.
  • Current participation in professional associations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with students, faculty, staff, and partners.
  • Computer skills sufficient to prepare class materials and exams, and support communication with students and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Experience with curriculum development and course design.
Optional Qualifications
  • Course development in AI‑related areas.
