The Recruitment Team. This position will use a blended learning format consisting of pool instruction, face‑to‑face instruction in‑class, and online learning.
The Aquatic Leadership Program is a joint venture between the York Region District School Board, Continuing Education Services and the Town of East Gwillimbury. The qualified teacher for Part 1 will deliver the Grade 10 Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities (PAQ2O) while preparing students to acquire their Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR‑C. The aquatic skills for lifeguarding, swim and instructor must be evaluated by an examiner from the Lifesaving Society.
Course expectations will be assessed and evaluated using Standard Lifesaving Society evaluation criteria and the Ontario Ministry of Education expectations.
Pool instruction and face‑to‑face instruction will occur on specifically scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Health and Active Living Centre in East Gwillimbury. The remaining curriculum expectations will be delivered through online instruction when face‑to‑face instruction is not required.
Please Note: For the Night School Aquatic Leadership Program teachers must be qualified to teach Health and Physical Education at the Intermediate/Senior division and must be a Certified Lifeguard and Swim Instructor. Teachers must also be available for all pool, face‑to‑face and online sessions. The successful candidate must complete facility staff training as required by the Ontario Public Pool Association. Aquatics Leadership Program – Part 1 Consists Of The Following- Secondary School Grade 10 Credit – Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities – PAQ2O
- Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion
- Lifesaving Society's Bronze Cross
- Life Saving Society's Standard First Aid with CPR‑C
- Designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum/program.
- Teaching Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership – PLF4M1, National Lifeguarding Certification (Lifesaving Society) and Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification (Lifesaving Society) courses.
- Developing and maintaining an equitable and inclusive learning environment.
- Utilizing e‑learning tools e.g., Bright Space by D2L, Adobe Connect, Turnitin, etc. to deliver online curriculum.
- Collecting and reporting student achievement data.
- Maintaining a safe school/class (face‑to‑face, pool and online) environment.
- Ongoing communication with staff and parents/guardians.
- Reporting to the Online Learning Administrator.
- Supervision of students as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Qualified Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), preferably with Intermediate/Senior Physical and Health Education qualifications.
- Standard First Aid with CPR‑C and AED.
- Current Lifesaving Society qualifications.
- National Lifeguard Instructor and Examiner.
- Instructor Trainer – Lifesaving.
- Instructor Trainer – Swim.
