Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to overcome barriers and reach their full potential?

We are looking for a dedicated, empathetic and compassionate Children and Young People’s Learning Skills Mentor to join our Engagement and Attainment Service, working with vulnerable learners who have Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties in Ceredigion schools to build on their educational experiences.

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people who experience difficulties with emotional regulation, social interaction, and behavioral challenges. As a Skills Mentor, you will be a consistent and safe adult in their lives – someone they can trust, connect with, and rely on. You will work closely with schools, families, and other professionals to provide tailored support that promotes engagement, wellbeing, and educational attainment.

Your role will involve building strong, respectful relationships with learners, school staff and partners, using trauma-informed and creative approaches to help them develop the skills they need to thrive. You’ll support them in managing their emotions, improving their social confidence, and navigating the challenges they face both in and out of school. By being present, patient, and persistent, you’ll help unlock their potential and open up new possibilities for their future.

We are looking for someone who is empathetic, resilient, and committed to inclusion. You’ll need experience working with children and young people, particularly those with complex needs, and be confident in supporting behavior positively, relationally and constructively. You’ll also be a strong communicator and team player, able to work flexibly across different settings and build effective partnerships.

In return, you’ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team, with access to ongoing training and professional development. Most importantly, you’ll be part of a service that puts relational practice, wellbeing, and equity at the heart of everything we do.

If you believe every child deserves a safe adult who sees their potential and helps them grow, we would love to hear from you. Apply now and help us support children and young people to thrive.

We believe work-life balance is very important. To support you in achieving this, you will have access to the following discretionary benefits:

  • Hybrid Working: Subject to certain conditions being met, you may choose to work from home or in an office location. Due to the nature of the role, it will be necessary for you to travel within Ceredigion on a regular basis.
  • Flexi-time: Hours may be worked within a defined bandwidth, Monday to Friday, subject to service needs.
