Job Summary

The Student Success Advisor provides proactive academic advising and coaching to ODUGlobal students from matriculation through graduation. This role helps students develop clear academic plans, supports timely course registration, and connects students with resources that promote persistence and retention. Working in a fully online advising environment, the Student Success Advisor guides students through degree planning, monitors academic progress, and intervenes with targeted support to address barriers.

By fostering student engagement and accountability and using data-driven strategies and proactive communication, the Advisor contributes directly to ODUGlobal's enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master's degree in higher education (or related field) and/or Master's degree in unrelated field combined with prior basic/working experience in higher education areas of student services and academic advising may be accepted.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Understanding of the core values of advising and theory relevant to advising. Knowledge of legal guidelines of advising practice, including privacy regulations and confidentiality. Understanding of the characteristics, needs, and experiences of major and emerging student populations. Information technology skills applicable to advise, support students, work and collaborate entirely in an online and teleworking environment. Ability to adapt to potential time zone differences in serving students worldwide.

    Demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate with individuals and groups of designated students in an inclusive and culturally competent manner through the use of basic communication, helping, and problem-solving skills. Ability to engage in ongoing assessment and development of self and the advising practice. Ability to work remotely in a distributed team environment while contributing towards creation of a positive culture of collaborative teamwork.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Considerable experience as an academic advisor in a college or university setting; preference for online experience. Some higher education experience with student services (i.e., admissions, registration, tutoring, student financial aid, veteran's benefits). Experience using relevant information technology collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, MS Outlook, SharePoint, MS Office, Canvas), customer relationship management systems (Salesforce/Education Cloud), and student information systems (BANNER) preferred.
Conditions

of Employment

This is a remote position, requiring a traditional 40‑hour work week. Computer equipment will be supplied; high‑speed internet is the responsibility of the employee. The equipment provided to staff with approved telework agreements enables them to deliver vital services to University faculty, staff, and students from remote locations. Many of our operations can and should continue as usual, even when the main physical campus is closed.

Therefore, all Division of Transformation & Technology employees with an approved telework agreement are generally expected to work during official University closures.
