The University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry (UIC COD) is seeking a full-time, on-site Instructional Development Specialist to join a worldwide leader in oral health education, clinical care and research that is patient –centered and evidence-based. This position has a 6-month probationary period and requires the position to be on-site. After successful completion of the probationary period, up to one day per week of remote work may be possible.
The College of Dentistry is the largest oral health college in the State of Illinois, provides care for 35,000 patients a year, and has over 500 students seeking dental degrees including DMD, PhD and Master’s programs.
The Instructional Development Specialist plays a key role in advancing digital learning and instructional technology within the College of Dentistry. This position supports faculty in integrating technology into teaching, ensures compliance with accessibility standards, manages assessment tools, and oversees testing center operations, including accommodations and make-up exams.
Minimum acceptable qualifications include a Master's degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy and six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching.
OR
Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities and eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching.
The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree and 3 years of experience in utilizing instructional technology and experience in higher education. The successful candidate will have experience coaching faculty in integrating technology into teaching. Proficiency with platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, or D2L (course builds, gradebook, quizzes, analytics), experience with tools like Exam Soft, Respondus (Lock Down Browser/Monitor), Question Mark, or similar systems.
Experience conducting accessibility checks and remediating content and capacity to diagnose instructional and technical issues, recommend solutions, and follow through to resolution.
The budgeted salary range for the position is $65,000 to $78,000/year. Final rate offered will consider internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.
