Job SummaryThe classroom teacher will provide instruction in English Language Arts and Humanities, including Social Emotional Learning topics, to youth in institutional facilities. The teacher will deliver curriculum for secondary and post‑secondary students, establish classroom management, assess student progress, and collaborate with the Division of Youth Services (DYS) and community partners.
Primary Responsibilities- Establish and maintain an appropriate classroom setting using effective management skills and PBIS strategies.
- Assess new and continuing students using multiple assessment methods.
- Prepare unit lesson plans and daily plans aligned with state standards.
- Implement research‑based teaching strategies, including technology integration.
- Maintain accurate educational records in IC and/or Trails.
- Substitute in other classrooms as required.
- Participate in meetings with Central Education Office, principal, treatment providers and other teachers to review student progress.
- Support facility safety, supervise residents, and apply trauma‑informed practices.
- Adhere to DYS policies, Code of Conduct, and safety procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- Current, valid initial or professional teacher license issued by the Colorado Department of Education.
- Must be a Colorado state resident at the time of application.
- Background check, including CBI name check, fingerprinting, and other required screenings.
- Valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license, or a U.S. driver’s license (if within 30 miles of the state border).
- Experience working with at‑risk or adjudicated youth.
- Proficient use of assessment data to inform instruction.
- Experience building educational programs.
- Relevant years of state service.
- Implementation of articulated systems with fidelity.
- Behavioral intervention strategies.
- Education technology instruction.
- Urban and at‑risk population experience.
- Interpersonal, oral communication, and problem‑solving skills.
