Under the guidance of licensed special education staff, assist students with severe special education needs in curriculum delivery, behavior strategies, and technical physical care. Responsibilities include preparing materials, monitoring students, recording achievement and progress, and maintaining a clean, hygienic environment. Remote work may involve supporting students with online learning access, re‑teaching curriculum, and implementing executive functioning strategies. Assignments include Autism, Behavior Development (BD), Early Childhood Education, Homebound (FAPE) Program, Integrated Learning Center (ILC), Serious Emotional Disability (SED), and Transition Programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Shared Job Task Across Assignments- Assist students with classroom activities and adapt the curriculum to individual student needs (Daily, 35%).
- Implement accommodations, supports, and modifications outlined in the IEP; maintain progress and behavior records (Daily, 30%).
- Assist licensed staff with preparing materials, administering tests, attendance, and paperwork; support classroom events such as fire drills (Daily, 5%).
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested (Daily, 5%).
- Monitor students, reinforce appropriate behavior, and provide verbal de‑escalation and non‑violent crisis interventions (Daily, 15%).
- Provide technical physical care including toileting, grooming, cleaning ventilation devices, feeding, care of gastrostomy tube, positioning, and range‑of‑motion activities; administer medication as directed (Daily, 10%).
- Monitor students, reinforce behavior, provide de‑escalation, and support social interactions between students with special needs and peers (Daily, 25%).
- Assist small groups or individuals with online classroom activities, curriculum accommodations, and generalization of skills (Daily, 50%).
- Prepare assignments for home completion and support students with assigned work (Daily, 35%).
- Maintain progress and behavior records (Daily, 5%).
- Support students with technology issues (Daily, 5%).
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested (Daily, 5%).
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Background check and fingerprinting required.
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
- No professional work experience required.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention training provided by the District for staff in autism, behaviorally disordered, or ILC assignments.
- Medication administration training provided by the District as needed.
- Basic knowledge of office equipment and Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate verbal/written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work alone and with others.
- Ability to appropriately modify curriculum and implement behavior modification techniques.
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work one‑on‑one and in small groups with students.
- For DHH Program: understanding impacts of hearing loss on learning.
- For Homebound program: set appropriate boundaries and build relationships with families and healthcare providers.
- Work location subject to change.
- Medium work strength level (lift/carry up to 50 lbs).
- Primarily indoors, moderate noise level.
- Prolonged standing, walking; frequent bending, reaching, climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, squatting, overhead work.
- Eye/hand coordination and visual concentration required.
- Experience in public education, working with diverse communities, and with children having autism, behavior challenges, medically fragile conditions, or disabilities.
- Associate’s degree.
- Experience with special needs children in a paid or licensed program.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
