Please note:

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Applications remain active for up to two years. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. For more information, refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office.

Representative Duties
  • Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses.
  • Teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and use multiple teaching methodologies.
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.
  • Maintain subject matter currency.
  • Develop and revise curriculum.
  • Use computer and multimedia technology.
  • Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition.
  • OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.
  • OR the equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be deemed equal. Completing an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form is required.
  • A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions
