Duties & Responsibilities
  • The successful candidates will be responsible for, over 9 months:
    • Teaching up to 3 courses per year (2+1 or 1+2 schedule).
    • Conducting externally-funded independent research.
    • Providing service to the department, college, university, and national/international community, including academic advising.
  • Evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
  • Passion for teaching and research.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and students.
  • Appreciation for, or experience with, diverse constituencies.
  • Research that aligns with UND Grand Challenge goals (such as autonomous systems, energy sustainability, or big data).
  • A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely-related field.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Subject matter expertise in atmospheric dynamics at any scale, aviation meteorology, cloud physics and atmospheric chemistry, mesoscale meteorology and severe storms, stratospheric research, social science, and/or atmospheric science applications involving machine learning or artificial intelligence. This expertise should be demonstrated through prior teaching assignments and/or published peer reviewed journal articles and books.
  • Had a post-doctoral fellowship at a College/University or equivalent years of experience post PhD.
  • Evidence of the ability to successfully obtain consistent external research funding.
  • Leadership/mentorship, project management, and/or service experience.
