Overview

The Academic Administrator-Special Programs develops and implements policies and procedures and oversees all matters related to special education and special programs (EL and 504) for the school. The role also assists the Head of School and Academic Administrator peers with developing and implementing more general academic policies and procedures and with school operations. This is a REMOTE full-time position with typical hours 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school, and the ability to work independently from a home office.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and disseminate “best practices” for special education and special programs policies and procedures in collaboration with school leadership
  • Support the school’s administration and teachers with training on and implementation of special programs; communicate with district(s), intermediate units, and state special education leaders to ensure compliance and represent the school in related meetings and trainings
  • Develop contracts with service providers for related services and maintain the related services database to track services and ensure eligible students receive services and proper cost reporting
  • Oversee development, compliance, maintenance, and implementation of initial and three-year re-evaluations with resident districts; review RED, MEEGS, IEPs, service plans, 504 plans, and EL plans as applicable
  • Ensure fiscal compliance for special programs including IDEA Part B funds and related reporting
  • Collaborate with the Test Coordinator to ensure appropriate accommodations during state testing
  • Work with the enrollment team to ensure timely identification and enrollment of students with special needs
  • Communicate changes in local, state, and federal special education practices and laws to the Head of School
  • Ensure integration of special education students in all school activities and foster collaboration between general and special education staff
  • Participate in the school's self-evaluation programs
  • Collaborate with the Stride National Related Services team for applicable related services
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 5-10 full-time equivalent employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints.

Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Seven (7) years of special education teaching experience
  • Three (3) years of special education managerial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Other

Required Qualifications
  • Project management experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with in-person and electronic communication; customer service orientation
  • Ability to read data and determine steps to assist students academically and behaviorally
  • Ability to apply adult instructional methods in staff training
  • Effective written and verbal communication; good judgment in decision-making
  • Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other regulations
