Overview
Early Head Start/Head Start Teacher (Evergreen) role at University of Kansas Medical Center. Project Eagle provides home-based and center-based services to pregnant women and/or children ages birth to five and is a member of the Educare Learning Network.
Responsibilities- High Quality Teaching Practices:
Ensure children safety by maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe classroom environment, conduct authorized emergency and safety procedures, and actively supervise children at all times. - Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and environments that support children’s developmental and educational goals, utilizing the High Scope Curriculum in collaboration with the EHS/HS Associate Teacher and EHS/HS Teacher Aide.
- Support children in developing positive social relationships, self-esteem, conflict resolution skills, and social-emotional growth, using Conscious Discipline strategies.
- Utilize the continuity of care model to support children and families in developing safe, secure attachments.
- Partner with families to build mutually respectful, goal-oriented relationships that support strong parent-child relationships and ongoing learning for both parents and children.
- Interact with families through regular classroom contact and participate in interdisciplinary meetings, family conferences, and home visits to develop individual child goals and share progress toward school readiness.
- Provide monthly classroom family engagement activities based on the interests of the children and families.
- Complete necessary paperwork timely, including developmental assessments, lesson plans, parent information, incident/accident reports, attendance, and USDA meal counts.
- Observe, assess, and document each child’s skills, behavior, growth, and development; develop individualized learning opportunities; understand referral processes and alert the interdisciplinary team when concerns arise.
- Use classroom and school data to improve teaching practice and ensure school readiness; maintain complete, accurate, and confidential child files and portfolios.
- Collaborate with coworkers during planning and support implementation of best practices in the classroom.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, coaching, and reflective supervision; support changes that promote high-quality instruction.
- Share expertise and classroom experiences with other members of the school and community.
- Follow Head Start regulations, state and local childcare licensing regulations, and Project Eagle/Educare of Kansas City’s philosophy and curriculum.
- Education:
Meet one of the following:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field; degree with at least 30 early childhood credits;
Associate’s degree in early childhood education with 2 years’ experience and enrollment in a Bachelor’s program; or credits equivalent to an Associate’s degree with focus on Early Childhood and enrollment in a Bachelor’s program to complete within 3 years. - Certification: CPR and First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of employment (paid by employer).
- Work Experience:
2 years’ experience in early childhood education; must pass background check including fingerprinting. - Preferred Qualifications:
Early childhood teaching certification or graduate coursework/degree;
Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field. - Work Experience (additional):
Experience in an EHS/Head Start center-based program; knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards; experience with multidisciplinary teams, early intervention, curriculum implementation, assessment tools, and partnerships. - Language:
Bilingual Spanish/English. - Skills:
Interpersonal, communication, computer skills, and strong multitasking/time management. - Other:
Ability to move up to 50 pounds with/without accommodations; eligible for background checks and fingerprinting as required.
- Anticipated salary: $23.44/hr.
