Position: Special Education Teacher -(multi-site teacher)

Job Description

Full‑time Substitute Special Education Teacher is a state‑certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher provides instruction, support, guidance, manages the learning process, and focuses on students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

The Substitute will obtain licensure in multiple states and serve students across several schools on an approximate six‑ to twelve‑week rotating time frame between schools. Flexibility and the willingness to pivot are key.

The Full‑time Substitute may work in a time zone other than that of their residence. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, is required. A professional home office free of distraction during the workday (typically 9–5 or 8–4) is essential.

Required Certificates and Licenses
  • Active State Special Education teaching license
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Additional Special Education licenses in a minimum of three states with up to five states preferred by the first day of employment as determined by Stride
Essential Functions
  • Make modifications and accommodations to Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress toward IEP goals and objectives
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed
  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students
  • Commit to personalizing learning for all students
  • Demonstrate belief in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations
  • Maintain grade book ensuring student academic integrity, make placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating with and responding to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues, and provide basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment in line with academy policies and procedures
  • Ensure all special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team:
    • Communicate with parents and applicable related service staff to ensure that students with special needs are receiving appropriate therapies
    • Develop progress reports and other state‑specific required special education documentation
    • Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities such as assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions
  • Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis with administrators
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with students across grade levels
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick‑and‑mortar environment
  • Experience with online learning platforms
Compensation & Benefits

Salaries range from $43,000 to $50,000, subject to factors such as education, experience, and location. Eligible employees may receive a bonus. Stride offers a robust benefits package that can include health benefits, retirement contributions, and paid time off.

  • This position is remote and open to residents of the 50 states and D.C.
