Job Overview
A General Psychiatrist, under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director, performs psychiatric assessments and evaluations for individuals receiving mental health services. The employee ensures that all documentation of client treatment services is complete, timely, thorough and accurate, meeting all agency, state and professional standards. The psychiatrist provides psychopharmacological services including medication evaluation, consents, monitoring and orders for appropriate laboratory tests, reviews them and authorizes prescriptions.
The psychiatrist also provides psychiatric treatment, planning and consultation and/or coordination of care for individuals receiving services. They provide supervision and teaching to Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners as required by professional and agency standards. The psychiatrist may provide educational presentations to agency staff and community organizations as authorized by agency administration and performs other work duties as assigned.
- Must possess a medical degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must possess a current State of Michigan Medical License, Controlled Substance License, and DEA License.
- Must have certification in Adult Psychiatry through ABPN or the ability to achieve certification within one (1) year of employment.
- Have post graduate clinical training or one (1) year of experience in the field, including diagnosing and treating persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and co‑occurring disorders.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
- Must have reliable transportation that may be used to carry out job duties of this classification.
- Bilingual candidates highly desired.
- Lived experiences with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders valued.
- Individuals in recovery and those with experience in Armed Services valued.
Generally performs sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty‑five (35) pounds or less.
Environmental ConditionsA General Psychiatrist generally works remotely; however, travel to Health West locations within Muskegon County may occasionally be required.
