Chiefof Medicine Service
Role Overview :
The Chief of Medicine (COM) Service will be part of the Chief of Staff and Executive Leadership team, guiding the Health Care System in its mission of leading Veteran’s health care. The COM will oversee the planning, development, coordination, direction, and evaluation of Medical inpatient and subspecialty services for a large, complex VA health care system.
Acute inpatient services, including an emergency department, are housed at the Sacramento VA Medical Center in Mather, California. A 120-bed community living center (CLC) is situated at the Martinez campus. Outpatient Medical subspecialty services include Allergy, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease/Infection Prevention, Nephrology, Home Based Primary Care, Hospital Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Pulmonology/Critical Care, Rheumatology, and Sleep Medicine.
Affiliated with the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis Health (UCDH). The selected candidate will participate in the supervision of UC Davis residents/fellows and medical students at the Sacramento VA Medical Center and will receive an academic appointment at a level commensurate with their academic accomplishments and experience. They will collaborate with UC Davis faculty to enhance and develop educational rotations within the VA Northern California HCS.
Qualified candidates will be experienced clinicians with extensive leadership capabilities as both clinicians and administrators. They must demonstrate skills in innovation, team-building, and coaching clinical leaders. Strong interpersonal, operational, and financial abilities are essential. They must also meet VA performance goals and be knowledgeable about VA standards and accrediting bodies. The candidate should promote innovation, lean management, and inspire organizational excellence.
