Position: Physician (Home Based Primary Care)

Summary

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking a Physician (Home Based Primary Care) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to Veterans within the Home Based Primary Care and Geriatric Primary Care programs.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • Citizenship: US citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • Education: MD or equivalent from an accredited school approved by the VA at the time of graduation.
  • Licensure and Registration: Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US or territories.
  • Residency Training: Completion of VA-approved residency in an accredited program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • English Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Eligible in Family/Internal or Geriatric Medicine; experience with older adult care; certification in Hospice, Palliative Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform moderate lifting, carrying, standing, walking, and other physical activities as specified.
Duties:
  • Provide high-quality outpatient geriatric care in patients' homes, collaborating with medical directors and program managers.
  • Participate in administrative duties such as staff meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Manage clinical care, including documentation, oversight of non-physician team members, and participation in quality and safety initiatives.
  • Provide supervision to non-physician providers within scope of practice.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
