QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
BasicRequirements
- United States citizenship
- Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine, obtained from a school approved by VA for the year of completion
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory or the District of Columbia
- Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Residents currently enrolled in ACGME or AOA accredited residency training programs who meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis only
- PRPs are not independent practitioners and have limited scope of practice under supervision
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred experience:
Primary Care Physician managing a panel of patients - Physical ability to perform duties; pre‑placement physical examination required
- Provide a full range of clinical services including assessment and using appropriate techniques in providing quality care in their specialty
- Perform evaluation and management of patients, including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation, and appropriate treatment decisions
- Participate in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to enhance coordination of comprehensive patient care
- Order diagnostic tests and interpret findings to make appropriate treatment decisions while ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, VA policies, and HIPAA
- Maintain clinical privileges and conduct duties in accordance with credentialing and privileging packages
- Display courteous, respectful, and cooperative relationships with management, co‑workers, patients, and the public
- Ensure productivity is maintained at established levels
- Participate in recruitment/relocation incentive programs for highly qualified applicants
- Apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) if eligible
- Adhere to the work schedule: full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm
- Follow all policies regarding telework, virtual work, and remote work (none for this position)
