Position: F2F General Practitioner, Out of Hours Service

F2F General Practitioner, Out of Hours Service

This is a rare opportunity for interested GPs to join our team in the GP Out of Hours service for Oxfordshire.

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust's (OHFT) Primary, Community and Dental Care Directorate comprises of several services which provide same day, acute and urgent care to patients, close to, or where possible, in their own home as a safe alternative to secondary care. One of these is the Out of Hours service (OOH) which provides urgent primary care to patients across Oxfordshire when normal primary care is closed.

Working as a GP and part of a multi-disciplinary team, your role will be varied, interesting, and ultimately rewarding providing urgent care to patients in the out of hours period for shifts that will entail face to face care either in a base clinic location, at the patient's home (home visiting) and/or remote telephone consultations from a trust location.

This is a substantive and on-site role for a minimum of 17 hours per week (plus CPD) and up to full time hours if supported by shift times and length of shift - flexible hours can be considered that fit within the service model.
This must include at least one overnight shift (9 hours) in combination with weekday evening and/or weekend shifts.

You will be expected to work at one of our base sites (with some ability cross cover) - these include Bicester, Banbury, Oxford, Witney, Abingdon, Henley and other Trust spaces.

Main duties of the job

As a F2F GP working in the OOH service, your priority will be to assess, treat and manage patients presenting to the OOH service requiring same day urgent care that cannot wait for when normal primary care is open.

Working out of a base location, you will be required to care for patients from birth through to those patients requiring end of life care. Skills and experience in managing patients that are acutely unwell are essential as well as recognition of illness that requires further intervention from primary care, community and social services or secondary care.

This is a hands‑on role and experience of palliative care and urinary catheterisation would also be helpful when working as a GP in the OOH service, but further learning and training can be provided.

You will also provide senior medical support and advice to non‑medical practitioners working as part of the MDT in the OOH service and work in an integrated way with other same day and urgent care services provided by OHFT.

As part of this role you will also be required to support and supervise trainee GPs and non‑medical practitioners and undertake research and clinical audit.

In all areas, you will work with excellent multidisciplinary teams and benefit from an extensive programme of work we are undertaking to improve our systems and processes so that you feel supported and remain focused on your clinical work.
