Avela Health is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Developmental Pediatrician (Consultant) with expertise in supporting autistic children and their families. In this role, you will provide diagnostic insight, developmental guidance, and medical consultation to complement our multidisciplinary model. You will partner closely with psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and parents to ensure holistic, neurodiversity-affirming, family-centered care. This is a flexible, remote consulting position that emphasizes collaboration, clinical expertise, and integration of developmental pediatrics into comprehensive treatment planning.
Key Responsibilities- Work with Avela clinicians and families to inform care planning, medical considerations, and goal-setting.
- Offer guidance on common pediatric concerns such as growth, sleep, feeding, and developmental milestones.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists and psychologists regarding differential diagnosis, co-occurring conditions, and medication considerations.
- Provide parent education and support around medical and developmental issues in a family-centered, accessible manner.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews to ensure alignment of medical and therapeutic approaches.
- Stay current with research and best practices in developmental pediatrics, autism, and family-centered intervention models.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification (or eligibility) in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics or Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.
- Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice medicine in New Jersey.
- Documented experience working with autistic children and their families across the spectrum of support needs.
- Commitment to a neurodiversity-affirming, family-centered model of care.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, team-based environment.
- Experience providing consultation within multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI) and other developmental and family-centered practices.
- Previous experience working in a telehealth or remote care setting.
- Training or experience in parent education and coaching.
