Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory and General Medicine
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a non‑training fellow in Respiratory and General Medicine. The post closes 28 January 2026.
OverviewYou will join a multidisciplinary Respiratory Department caring for a local and tertiary population. The role involves inpatient ward duties, specialty outpatient clinics, diagnostic interventional procedures and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings.
Responsibilities- Inpatient ward rounds for respiratory and general medical patients
- Specialty outpatient clinics (lung cancer, severe asthma, pleural disease, ILD, TB, NIV, COPD, bronchiectasis)
- Practical procedures: bronchoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic pleural aspirations, Seldinger intercostal chest drains (Level 1 pleural ultrasound preferred but not essential)
- MBBS or equivalent with GMC registration
- Postgraduate training to MRCP level (MRCA/FRCP/FRCA/FRCS) and academic respiratory medicine training
- Experience in acute and respiratory medicine, including interventional procedures
- MRCP PACES or equivalent proven; recognised training in academic respiratory medicine with postgraduate qualification
- Effective communication with patients and multi‑professional teams (verbal and written in English)
- Organisational and prioritisation skills with ability to meet deadlines
- Calm, compassionate, and efficient response to varying circumstances
- Experience in teaching and research/audit participation
- Full competency in diagnostic and therapeutic pleural procedures
- Minimum 35 days pro‑rata paid holiday
