University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. We are looking for an enthusiastic hard‑working clinical fellow to join the Respiratory Department provide care for the Southampton population and tertiary care to part of the south coast, running multiple speciality clinics (lung cancer, severe asthma, pleural disease, ILD, TB, NIV, COPD, bronchiectasis including PCD and CF).
We have regular bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound lists and a new IPC service. The post is to provide comprehensive care for inpatient respiratory and general medicine at the level of a Specialist Registrar (post MRCP, ST3 or higher). Responsibilities include inpatient ward rounds, outpatient clinics, bronchoscopy lists, COPD/ILD/Cancer MDT meetings, and respiratory referrals on other wards. Competence in diagnostic and therapeutic pleural procedures is required.

YourResponsibilities
- Inpatient ward rounds of respiratory and general medical patients.
- Specialty outpatient clinics.
- Practical procedures (bronchoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic pleural aspirations and Seldinger chest drains).
- Hard‑working, enthusiastic, engaged clinical fellow with a keen interest in Respiratory Medicine.
- Fully competent to perform all pleural procedures – diagnostic and therapeutic pleural aspirations and Seldinger chest drains (Level 1 pleural ultrasound accreditation desirable but not essential).

Additional InformationAppointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust‑appointed (non‑training fellow doctors and dentists). Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should meet Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application. Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors and a named educational supervisor will be assigned at the start of the post.
CPD is highly supported and encouraged, with options available to take study leave. Grades for Trust‑appointed fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, plus any additional remuneration for hours set out in the doctors’ work schedule. Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5;
minimum 6 years of specialty training, hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g. FRCP, FRCA, FRCS), and a portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression as per the curriculum for the speciality.
