Brownstone Boys is an Interior Design & Renovation Project Management studio specializing in full townhouse renovations. We restore historic homes with deep respect for their original character while bringing in clean, modern, livable design. Our work marries historic charm with timeless functionality and we manage projects from concept through completion across NYC and beyond.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Architectural Designer to take creative ownership of full-home renovations and guide projects from vision through installation. This role is responsible for shaping cohesive, highly detailed interior environments that honor historic architecture while introducing thoughtful, modern design. The Senior Architectural Designer will guide clients through material selections and design decisions, produce detailed drawings, 3D renderings, and elevations, collaborate closely with the Project Manager and trade partners, and work under the creative direction of the Principals to ensure each project reflects the Brownstone Boys standard of quality and refinement.
This is a hands‑on, client‑facing position for a highly organized, detail‑driven designer who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced renovation environment.
- Learn client vision and preferences then establish overall design direction
- Develop full‑home design concepts for gut renovations and major remodels
- Coordinate with AOR on architectural plans and translate them into cohesive interior environments
- Collaborate closely with the Principals to review and refine design concepts, material selections, and key architectural details
- Balance historic preservation with modern livability
- Present mood boards, finish palettes, renderings, elevations, and material concepts
- Create and oversee detailed finish schedules and material selections
- Specify materials, fixtures, finishes, and furniture
- Produce detailed design drawings and 3D renderings, including floor plans, millwork details, interior elevations, tile layouts, lighting plans, and finish callouts to clearly communicate design intent to clients, contractors, and fabricators.
- Develop custom millwork and built‑in design concepts and drawings
- Oversee FF&E selections and furniture plans
- Serve as the primary creative point of contact for clients
- Lead design presentations and selection meetings and confidently guide clients through decision‑making
- Balance inspiration with budget awareness
Manage client expectations while maintaining design integrity - Work closely with PM to align design intent with budget and schedule
- Attend site meetings for design‑related coordination
- Resolve field conditions that impact design details
- Provide timely clarifications to contractors and trades
- 3+ years experience in residential architecture or interior design
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field
- Proven experience leading home renovations (NYC townhouses or historic homes and plus)
- Strong understanding of construction documentation and detailing
- Fluency in finish specifications and millwork design
- Experience collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors
- High proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Adobe Suite, etc.)
- Strong presentation skills and client communication abilities
- Highly organized and detail‑driven
- Collaborative team player who enjoys and thrives in a cooperative, idea‑sharing studio environment.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously

Full‑Time, partial onsite and work from home (at least 3 days in office in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn)
