Lead Architect — Engineer/Architect IV

Salary: $111,100 - $135,800 annually, depending on experience.

This position provides lead architecture oversight or design and applies intensive and diversified principles and practices, making independent design decisions applicable to large academic institutions. Visual inspection of construction work as necessary, analysis, and support of maintenance operations. Successful candidate must be innovative, communicate well, and collaborate effectively with campus stakeholders. The position may be on‑call for emergencies on projects assigned outside normal working hours.
Job Responsibilities- 40% – Project Roles and Assignments: Assigned to projects of varying scale and complexity, generally favoring larger projects with budgets ranging from $50,000 to $500 million. Provides guidance and direction to outside design and construction partners, ensures quality assurance for in‑house architectural design, and is responsible for compliance with applicable codes. Acts as point person for interpretations of architectural guidelines, technical specifications, and drawn details.
- 30% – Architectural Guideline and Technical Standards Lead: Works with IPF partners to develop and maintain organizational design guidelines, technical specifications, and drawing details. Coordinates integration with other design disciplines and ensures consensus of IPF standards with planners and engineers.
- 30% – Work Loading and Staff Development: Provides input to the Capital Project Delivery Manager regarding architectural staff workload and project assignments. Offers insights and recommendations for staff development and serves as a mentor to the architectural team.
• Four‑year degree in architecture, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Over eight years of related, progressively responsible work experience in project design, specification writing, project management, and system development.
• Registration/certification as a Professional Architect in the State of Michigan.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD or Revit, and extensive knowledge of construction practices and applicable codes.
• Eight or more years leading complex, multi‑disciplinary project teams from pre‑design through construction.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Experience with higher education projects and knowledge of ADA and related codes and standards.
• Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Suite, BIM platforms, Navisworks, Sketch Up, and Bluebeam Studio.
