Heritage Unlimited is a well-established, friendly, and growing heritage consultancy based in London. We deliver specialist heritage advice to public and private sector clients across the country on a wide variety of projects affecting the historic environment. With a strong track record of producing high-quality, technically robust reports, we excel at navigating complex planning issues and providing both design and technical solutions that help clients achieve their objectives while protecting our built heritage.
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Heritage Consultant who thrives when working independently to the highest professional standards, while also enjoying collaboration on larger, multi-disciplinary projects. You will take full responsibility for researching, preparing, and delivering a range of heritage documentation, including (but not limited to) Heritage Statements, Conservation Plans, and Historic Building Recording reports. You will liaise directly with clients, architects, planners, and other consultants to provide clear, pragmatic advice that balances heritage protection with development aspirations.
Key Responsibilities- Research and prepare high-quality heritage reports and assessments
- Provide expert guidance on repairs and alterations to listed buildings
- Offer design advice for new developments within conservation areas and within the setting of heritage assets
- Manage multiple projects to tight deadlines
- Engage proactively with clients and project teams
Essential Criteria
- Degree (or equivalent) in building conservation, architectural history, building archaeology, or a closely related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience working as a Heritage Consultant
- Sound working knowledge of the UK planning system, including the NPPF, listed building and conservation area legislation, and relevant local planning policies
- Good understanding of repairs and alterations to listed buildings
- Ability to provide clear design guidance for new development affecting heritage assets and conservation areas
- Solid understanding of architectural design and historic building fabric
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce accurate, well-structured reports to deadline
- Full or Associate membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC)
- Ideally located in London or one of the surrounding counties with the ability to travel
- Full UK driving licence
