We are seeking a Mid–Senior Urban Planner to join our growing interdisciplinary team. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker who thrives in a collaborative studio environment, is deeply passionate about community-driven planning, and is ready to take on increased responsibility in project leadership, team coordination, and mentorship.

You will play a key role in shaping planning strategy, guiding work streams from vision through implementation, and translating complex research and policy into clear, compelling, and actionable plans.

Location: Hybrid – San Antonio, Texas or Plano, Texas

Commitment: Full-time | ~25–30% Travel

Responsibilities

As a Mid–Senior Urban Planner, you will:

  • Lead planning strategy and execution across parks and open space systems, downtown revitalization, corridors and mobility, housing, and land use initiatives.
  • Conduct research, policy analysis, spatial analysis, and data-driven decision-making to inform planning direction.
  • Develop high-quality written, graphic, and visual storytelling for public-facing plans and reports.
  • Facilitate community engagement processes, stakeholder meetings, workshops, and public presentations.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary teams, clients, and agency partners to ensure alignment and momentum.
  • Mentor junior planners and interns, supporting professional growth within Urban Alchemy Collective.
Qualifications Your Capabilities & Credentials

We’re looking for a planner who brings both vision and rigor:

  • Strong written, graphic, and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible strategies.
  • Experience leading discussions, workshops, and stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Strategic thinker comfortable operating at both the big-picture vision level and detailed policy implementation level.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite; working knowledge of Sketch Up, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary coordination and client collaboration.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced studio setting.
  • AICP certification preferred or actively pursuing certification.
Education, Experience & Licensure
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Architecture, Urban Design, GIS, or a related field (required).
  • 5–7+ years of professional urban planning experience, preferably within Texas or similar growth contexts.
  • AICP certified or on a clear path toward certification.
