In this design-driven specification role, you will:
- Act as the primary design and specification expert for Rugby’s architectural and decorative product portfolio within your territory.
- Promote and influence the specification of decorative surfacing and architectural building products to architects, interior designers, and design-focused firms.
- Leverage existing relationships and contacts within the A&D community to drive immediate and long-term specification opportunities.
- Build new, trusted partnerships with key design decision-makers, becoming a go-to resource for material selection and technical guidance.
- Collaborate closely with design teams to understand aesthetic intent, performance requirements, and project constraints—delivering tailored product solutions.
- Prepare and manage detailed specifications, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless integration into construction documents.
- Develop and deliver polished design-forward presentations, CEU sessions, and technical demonstrations that resonate with design professionals.
- Conduct jobsite visits, design studio meetings, and product showings to support projects from concept through completion.
- Stay informed on design trends, finishes, textures, and innovations in decorative and non-structural architectural surfacing.
- Share market insights, competitive intelligence, and design feedback with internal teams to support product development and growth strategies.
Qualifications and Required Traits
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
- Proven experience as a Specification Representative, preferably within decorative surfacing, architectural materials, or related design-driven product categories.
- An established network of architectural and design contacts within the territory, with the ability to open doors and influence specifications quickly.
- A background or education in architecture, interior design, construction management, or a related field (degree or equivalent experience).
- A strong understanding of the specification process, construction documentation, and how design decisions translate to installed products.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with confidence presenting to both small design studios and large firms.
- A consultative, relationship-first approach with a passion for design and material innovation.
- The ability to work independently while managing a territory, prioritizing opportunities, and driving measurable results.
- Willingness to travel regularly throughout the local market for design meetings, jobsite visits, trade shows, and industry events.
