Preservation Architect

Position Overview

AYON Studio, a growing architecture and preservation practice in NYC, seeks a Preservation Architect to help further our mission of heritage conservation and preservation advocacy. The role is full‑time, in‑person at our Union Square office in Manhattan. Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 annually.

Job function:
Design, Art/Creative, and Information Technology

• Document, assess conditions, and sourire interventions on existing buildings.
• Conserve interior restorations, building envelope repairs, adaptive reuse, and rehabilitation projects.
• Work with leadership and staff to assess historic property condition, develop design solutions, and prepare construction documents for renovations and repairs.
• Conduct FISP inspections and reporting; assist with filing proposed work with regulatory agencies (LPC, DOB, SHPO, NPS, etc.).
• Lead bid procurement and construction contract administration; review contractor work, samples, and submittals during construction.
• Coordinate project progress with Project Manager and Principal; update office marketing material.
• 雷 Assist with in‑house business development tasks.

• Understanding of historic buildings’ materials, construction assemblies, decay patterns, and repair specification.
  
  Experience with building envelope repairs and interior renovation projects, including submissions to and approvals by LPC, SHPO, and DOB.
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet/javase deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Experience preparing construction documents and providing construction contract administration, including site observations, managing contractor submittals and RFIs.
• Strong communication skills and self‑driven work style focused on client needs.
• Experience with FISP compliance is desired.
• Architectural degree or M.Sc. in Historic Preservation or related field, with 4–8 enf relevant experience.
• Proficiency in CAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
• Hand‑sketching skills for on‑site documentation and willingness to perform fieldënte work, including suspended scaffold.
• Architectural licensure or progress toward completion of ARE exams desired but not required.
