Overview

Hankinson Duckett Associates (HDA) is a long-established, employee-owned, multidisciplinary practice specialising in landscape planning and design, master planning, ecology and arboriculture. You would join a friendly, professional and ambitious team of landscape architects, working across projects including landscape assessment, master planning, management plans, urban design, design and implementation, local and strategic planning, habitat restoration and habitat creation.

Joining HDA offers exposure to the full scope of landscape architecture and involvement in multiple projects at different stages, including site work, landscape design, report writing and 3D modelling. There is also opportunity to engage in ecology and arboriculture work (surveys, assessment, restoration, Biodiversity Net Gain and management plans).

The successful applicants should have proven written and graphic skills, knowledge of Adobe, AutoCAD and GIS (QGIS in particular) software. Graduates should have a postgraduate qualification in a landscape-related subject and be aiming towards gaining Landscape Institute chartership. We are primarily looking for candidates with strong written and graphic skills and an interest in working on strategic level projects. A full driving license would be advantageous.

Principal/Associate Landscape Architect

Hankinson Duckett Associates (HDA) is also seeking a Principal/Associate Landscape Architect to lead our Landscape team and support the Ecology and Arboriculture teams within our multidisciplinary practice. The role suits a professional who enjoys hands-on project work as well as overseeing and supporting the wider team.

HDA is a team of landscape architects, ecologists and arboriculturalists who collaborate to ensure that the environment is at the forefront of development decisions. We are an employee-owned trust (EOT), a relatively small firm that prides itself on quality work and strong client relationships.

What we do

We have a varied workload with a broad client base and an emphasis on environmentally sensitive schemes, including a specialism in Landscape Planning. You would become an integral member of the wider team, often working with other specialisms and clients. See  for examples.

Applicants for Principal/Associate level should demonstrate the following
  • CMLI qualified with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience; at least one of the following:
  • Proven ability to carry out landscape planning work and report writing (LVIAs, Green Belt studies, Landscape Character and sensitivity studies).
  • High design competency with ability to lead, review, train and inspire junior staff.
  • Willingness to expand knowledge/abilities through on-the-job training and supporting junior staff; experience with Pathway to Chartership is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage own projects and workloads with limited supervision, focusing on budgets and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; strong design communication.
  • Competence in standard software (MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Adobe, etc.).
  • Full driving license and car ownership.

Experience in private consultancy is preferred, but consideration may be given to candidates from the public sector who can demonstrate the necessary skills. Ability to win new clients and develop relationships is advantageous. An interest in ecology and/or arboriculture is beneficial. This is a full-time position; part-time/flexible working can be considered for the right candidate.
