Position: Project Architect / Project Manager

Apply for the role of Project Architect / Project Manager at Marx Okubo Associates, Inc.

Location:

San Francisco, CA. This role is on a hybrid schedule with Monday and Tuesday in the office each week; the remainder of the week is work from home.

We are a national architecture/engineering/construction consulting firm that evaluates and solves complex building challenges for real estate owners, investors, and lenders across a diverse set of building types. We do not design ground‑up new construction.

Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr
. Additional compensation and benefits include 100% paid health insurance premiums, a 30% match on 401(k) contributions, and other employee‑owned benefits.

Essential Functions
  • Lead, develop, and execute project documentation and contract administration for all phases.
  • Act as the Architect of Record for all documentation prepared under your supervision.
  • Achieve client project goals of budget and schedule.
  • Consult with clients to determine functional, spatial, and material requirements and prepare design estimates.
  • Ensure comprehensive multidisciplinary approaches to minimize risk and scope gaps.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with internal teams, consultants, and clients for coordination and negotiation.
  • Prepare schedules, budgets and work plans during all project phases.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring for staff; collaborate with Technical Directors to improve skills.
  • Participate in client presentations, marketing, and business development opportunities.
  • Travel to sites as needed (25–50% of time).
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • 10–15 years’ architectural practice with prior project management experience across complex projects and all phases.
  • Licensed professional architect in California; NCARB registration preferred.
  • PMP and LEED or other sustainability accreditation preferred.

    Design experience for building repair as architect of record on technically complex commercial projects.
  • Detail oriented and organized; proven experience managing multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge and architectural detailing skills.
  • Analytical thinker with robust problem‑solving abilities.
  • Creative solution‑finding to make projects efficient, budget‑appropriate, and buildable.
  • Effective leadership of multidisciplinary teams and consultants.
  • Experienced coordinating with owners and contractors.
  • Experience with projects of all sizes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Plan Grid, Box;
    Primavera or Quire a plus.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and networking.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Experience with California DSA process for education projects and HCAI (formerly OSHPD) for healthcare preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Move through construction and existing building sites over rough terrain.
  • Respond to dangerous situations and sounds.
  • Ascend/descend ladders and stairs; navigate confined spaces and narrow paths.
  • Work in outdoor or unconditioned areas.
  • Operate computer and related office equipment; visual acuity to read printed and screen information.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds (e.g., ladders).
  • Travel approximately 25–50% of time in and out of state.
