This position conducts interviews with claimants in person and by telephone at the assigned PA Career Link® location to take initial, continued, or additional claims for unemployment benefits. DESCRIPTION

OF WORK

The Bilingual UC Intake Interviewer assists customers who file claims for unemployment compensation in person, by telephone, mail, or via their Internet. You will be responsible for conducting interviews with claimants to gather information and pertinent data to establish valid claims for benefits in accordance with Pennsylvania UC laws. Work involves entering and retrieving data, modifying records, processing claims, and identifying issues that may affect the eligibility of claimants for benefits.

You will contact claimants, employers, other service centers, or agent offices to obtain clarification of data to expedite claim processing. Additional duties include:

  • Advising claimants of their rights and responsibilities
  • Conducting fact‑findings to identify issues that may affect claimants’ eligibility
  • Preparing and mailing forms to verify wage and separation information
  • Maintaining up‑to‑date records of claimant information

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with 30‑minute lunch
  • Work hours may vary based on operational needs and may be negotiable
  • Telework:
    Part‑time work from home may be available after the probationary period. You must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you cannot telework, you may report to the Allegheny East headquarters office. Telework eligibility is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview
  • May work in other UC Connect PA Career Link® locations as needed
  • May be required to travel to Harrisburg as needed; overnight travel may be required
  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed
  • Salary:
    In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable. Employees who pass the Spanish proficiency exam may receive an incentive of up to $1.00 per hour for using their bilingual skills after probation

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Successful completion of the Unemployment Compensation Intake Interviewer Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of customer service or office support experience, including two years of experience resolving customer impact issues; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training that includes two years of experience resolving customer impact issues
Other Requirements
  • You must be able to read, write, and speak in Spanish. You may be contacted for a Spanish speaking proficiency evaluation conducted by the Bureau of Talent Acquisition, PA Office of Administration. If contacted, you must pass the speaking evaluation to be deemed eligible. Your proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish must be demonstrated during the probationary period to achieve regular status in the position.
