The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences.

The Museum has three areas of expertise:
Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Social Media Intern

The Social Media Intern assists and supports the social media team up to 24 hours a week.

This position reports to the Social Media Manager as part of the Museum’s Marketing Communications’ Audience Engagement team. The Audience Engagement team strives to use social media and digital tools to reach and teach new audiences, especially young people, about Holocaust history, which remains relevant in an era of rising antisemitism and hate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researching historical information, photos, and video footage for possible posts
  • Organizing social media content in platforms such as Google Drive, Air Table, and Sprout Social
  • Monitoring current events related to Museum issues
  • Preparing resources for future social content and current events
  • Looking up answers to inquiries and requests submitted on social media channels

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have previous experience with Air Table and Sprout Social
  • Must have experience using a historical research database
  • Must have social media experience with a museum

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced environment

Extremely familiar with Holocaust history; using social media for educational purposes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using academic research databases, such as JSTOR or Pro Quest
  • Completed classes related to marketing, social media, or the Holocaust
  • Has visited USHMM or another Holocaust Museum in the past five years

To be eligible to participate in the Internship Program, students must meet the following enrollment criteria:

  • The student must be 18 years or older currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university
  • The student must have completed at least the first semester of their freshman year (At least at the time of application)
  • Provide proof of legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must reside in the United States for the full duration of the internship program
  • Must complete their background check while physically present in the United States

Interviews for the Summer 2026 internship program will begin in March 2026; for advanced applicants. Final selection decisions will be made by April 2026, and all candidates will be notified of their status via email by Human Resources.
