About Kids & Art Foundation

Kids & Art Foundation is a Bay Area–based nonprofit that uses the power of creativity to help children and families cope with the stress, anxiety, and trauma of pediatric cancer and other serious medical conditions. Through professional artist-led programs, we create moments of joy, connection, and normalcy during an otherwise overwhelming journey.

Our work is deeply relational, collaborative, and mission-driven. We are a small team that values kindness, creativity, accountability, and shared ownership. We believe how we work together matters just as much as what we create.

About the Role

The Communications & Storytelling Lead plays a central role in helping Kids & Art share its story with clarity, care, and heart. This position helps more people understand who we are, why our work matters, and how they can be part of it through thoughtful, authentic storytelling.

This is a hands‑on role well suited to someone who brings strong judgment, creative skill, and emotional sensitivity to their work. The Lead works closely with the CEO, Program Director, Development Manager, designer, and external publicity support to curate and share meaningful stories that reflect the lived experiences of our community.

Storytelling at Kids & Art is a shared effort. This role curates, shapes, and elevates stories in partnership with program, development, and leadership team members, rather than generating all content independently.

This is a part‑time, hybrid position of approximately 20 hours per week. The role includes a mix of remote work, in‑office collaboration in Burlingame, CA, and time spent at select Kids & Art programs and events throughout the Bay Area. Priorities are set collaboratively with leadership to ensure the scope of work remains sustainable within a part‑time schedule.

During weeks with events or increased program activity, focus shifts toward real‑time storytelling and content capture, with other communications work flexing accordingly.

Core Responsibilities Storytelling, Content & Communications
  • Capture and create thoughtful, mission‑aligned stories from Kids & Art programs and events, in close partnership with the Program Director, who provides program context, quotes, and additional visual assets.
  • Collaborate with program and development team members to plan and produce a newsletter published every other month that reflects program depth and community voice.
  • Develop and coordinate content across key channels, including email, website, social media, and select print materials.
  • Create slide presentations and short videos using Canva 2–5 times per year for fundraising, board engagement, donor communications, and community presentations.
Social Media & Engagement
  • Lead content planning and posting for Instagram, Facebook, Linked In, and You Tube.
  • Translate program activity into stories that support relationship‑building with donors, partners, and the broader community.
  • Maintain a consistent and sustainable cadence appropriate for a small organization, with a focus on quality, care, and alignment rather than volume.
Events, Media & Collaboration
  • Lead event communications and storytelling in partnership with designated event leads and team members, including social media assets, displays, printed materials, videos, and basic press materials.
  • Collaborate with Kids & Art’s publicity consultant to support media outreach and amplification, including coordinating assets and sharing program context.
  • Attend select workshops, fundraising events, and outreach opportunities to support storytelling and content capture. This may include occasional evenings or weekends.
What We’re Looking For Experience & Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, development communications, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience producing newsletters, impact reports, or donor‑facing content.
  • Experience producing both short‑form social content and longer‑form video, such as donor or program impact pieces.
  • Comfort managing content across social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, including Mailchimp.
  • Strong skills in both Google Workspace and…
