The Editor in this role is responsible for developing, editing and delivering commercial children’s books across a wide range of formats. You will take projects from concept through to print ready files, drawing on strong format knowledge, backlist awareness and an understanding of market needs. The position involves practical, fast paced work that requires clear organisation, accuracy and confident communication across departments.
Working as part of the Customer-led Publishing team, you will collaborate closely with designers and editors, as well as colleagues in Production, Buying and Sales, to ensure projects move smoothly through each stage. You will contribute to high editorial standards, respond quickly to new opportunities and help maintain effective workflow within a small and agile team.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, edit and deliver high quality commercial products across all Igloo imprints, ensuring accuracy, house style alignment and market readiness.
- Write, copy edit and proof a wide range of formats including activity, non-fiction, storybooks, colouring and licensed titles.
- Manage multiple projects from brief to final files, maintaining clear organisation, accurate version control and steady progress at pace.
- Maintain tight schedules, prioritise effectively and adapt quickly to shifting deadlines across a fast-moving workload.
- Build strong knowledge of the backlist and use it to identify and shape quick turnaround publishing opportunities.
- Brief and coordinate packagers, illustrators, authors and freelancers with clear communication of creative and commercial needs.
- Review layouts at all stages for accuracy in pagination, flow, alignment and overall editorial quality.
- Resolve challenges proactively, escalating issues only when necessary to keep projects moving efficiently.
- Work closely with Sales, Production and Buying to align briefs, schedules and specifications, ensuring projects meet customer expectations and commercial requirements.
- Collaborate with the wider creative team to share information, maintain consistency across imprints and support effective cross functional decision making.
- Contribute positively to team meetings, providing clear updates, ideas and solutions that strengthen communication and workflow across departments.
- Demonstrable editorial experience within publishing, with a clear understanding of market trends, consumer demands and relevant formats.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple fast paced projects accurately and confidently.
- Excellent command of editorial processes, copy editing standards and layout checking.
- Proficient in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communicator who collaborates well across teams and gives clear, constructive feedback.
