Zoo Media – Sound Design & Interactive Audio Intern

Zoo Media is redefining digital learning and creative engagement by blending storytelling, simulation, and interactive media. Sound is at the heart of every immersive experience we create — from educational simulations to creative challenges and interactive digital environments.

We’re seeking a creative, curious, and technically skilled Sound Design Intern to help shape the auditory identity of Zoo Media’s interactive programs. You’ll design soundscapes, build audio assets, and collaborate with developers, designers, and storytellers to bring digital experiences to life.

If you’re passionate about audio, storytelling, and interactive media, this internship gives you hands‑on experience with real projects that inform, inspire, and empower youth.

  • Create original sound effects, ambient loops, UI sounds, and signature audio cues for interactive learning environments and digital experiences.
  • Support sound design for simulations, creative challenges, and multimedia storytelling.
Voice & Music Collaboration
  • Work with voiceover talent to support narration, character voices, and instructional audio.
  • Assist in sourcing or composing background music that enhances mood, pacing, and engagement.
Simulated Environments & Real‑World Scenarios
  • Develop realistic sound profiles for digital simulations such as:
    • Driving and navigation
    • Skill‑building challenges
    • Creative learning environments
  • Enhance immersion through thoughtful audio layering and environmental design.
  • Learn how to implement audio into engines such as Unity or Unreal.
  • Gain experience with middleware tools like FMOD or Wwise.
  • Support syncing sound with animations, transitions, and user interactions.
  • Work with artists, animators, developers, and writers to ensure audio aligns with visual and narrative elements.
  • Contribute to multimedia content for Zoo Media’s digital channels.
Marketing & Media Support
  • Assist with sound design for trailers, short‑form videos, podcasts, educational content, and promotional media.
  • Help shape the audio identity of Zoo Media’s brand across platforms.
Skills You’ll Use or Build
  • Field recording & Foley production
  • Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) workflow
  • Middleware integration (FMOD, Wwise)
  • Asset management & version control
  • Sound design for marketing, social media, and multimedia content
Requirements
  • Availability for team meetings:
    Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST
    , Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST
    , Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST
    Skill Bridge participants also meet Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST
  • Pursuing or completed coursework in Audio Engineering, Media Production, Game Development, Music Production, Digital Media
    , or a related field.
  • Familiarity with DAWs, sound libraries, and audio editing tools.
  • Interest in interactive media, digital storytelling, or simulation‑based learning.
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and collaborative.
  • Bonus:
    Experience with Unity or Unreal audio pipelines.
