The role of the Jr. Graphic Designer is to be an active member of Advantage's in-house creative team and assist in the creation of our interior layouts, ensuring formatting consistency and accuracy throughout the entire interior layout process. In addition, the designer will also work with our authors and their editorial team to create graphics, charts, and other visuals that will be added to the interior layout of the book.
You must be a highly creative, innovative designer capable of producing visually eye‑catching deliverables. You must also be comfortable working on a project in every stage, from conception to production and also be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, as well as a master at time management.
- Prepare, organize, and deliver manuscripts and supporting assets to our external interior design vendor, ensuring files meet established specifications and workflows prior to layout.
- Review interior layouts returned from the external vendor for accuracy, consistency, and quality; apply internal design enhancements and refinements as needed before author review.
- Manage the interior design review cycle by incorporating author and editorial feedback, tracking revisions, and ensuring timely and accurate updates through approval.
- Execute final quality control and pre‑press preparation for approved interiors, including checklist validation, file cleanup, and press‑ready export for both print and digital formats.
- Create, refine, and review interior graphics, charts, tables, and visual elements in collaboration with authors and editorial teams to support clarity, readability, and visual cohesion within book interiors.
- Serve as a primary point of coordination between editorial, production, and external vendors, ensuring smooth handoffs, clear communication, and adherence to schedules and standards.
- Support the ongoing improvement of the interior book production process by identifying workflow efficiencies, documenting best practices, and maintaining consistency across projects.
- Collaborate closely with the design team and editorial partners to follow established InDesign workflows, uphold clean EP standards, and ensure files meet internal and external requirements.
- As capacity allows, assist the design team with book cover and interior production and other design needs, contributing to client‑facing projects that support authors in the retail marketplace.
