About Us

Our Communications, Marketing, and Events Team plays a crucial role in promoting the boroughs events, festivals, and venues, enhancing the cultural vibrancy of our community. We are looking for a creative and proactive Digital Communications & Engagement Officer to join our team and deliver the Councils priorities.

The Role

This is a hands‑on role which will require a confident communicator, writer and someone who can react quickly and efficiently in a professional manner in what can sometimes be a pressured situation. It is a varied job which will also include attending MBC events, photography and creating video content.

The role will also require creating proficient, professional social media content and proactively looking for opportunities to promote and enhance the reputation of the Council through all communications channels available, while identifying future digital channels to expand the Councils reach and audience.

This is a full‑time position, working 37 hours per week, on a 12 month fixed term contract. We offer a hybrid working arrangement, combining time in the office (1‑2 days per week) with the flexibility to also work from home. In addition, the need to attend events outside of traditional working hours, as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Devise digital content suitable for Council marketing campaigns
  • Update corporate social media channels to engage and respond to queries received to maximise engagement with residents, using these channels to improve the Councils reputation
  • To support on comms surrounding Local Government Reorganisation
  • Monitor traditional and social media to provide insight on stakeholder attitudes and opinions
  • Ensuring media enquiries are recorded, considered properly according to our policy and responded to in timely manner
  • Write and publish the Councils internal staff newsletter
About You
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms, Google Analytics and CMS systems.
  • Photography and video editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively within a team, remaining calm under pressure.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and exploring new digital ideas and opportunities.

You will have the flexibility to attend events at various sites across the borough outside of traditional office hours, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays as required.
