About the OrganisationOutburst Arts was brought to life in 2007 by a grassroots collective of lesbian, gay, bi and trans artists, producers and activists in Belfast, creating an arts platform, Outburst Queer Arts Festival, to challenge queer invisibility in the arts while also supporting local queer artists with opportunities to develop and showcase vital new work.
Since then, Outburst has grown into a much loved space for local and international queer artists and risk‑taking new ideas across visual arts, performance, literature, theatre, music, circus and beyond, producing some of the most vital arts events in Northern Ireland over the last two decades with artists, communities and cultural partners.
A registered company and charity since 2010, Outburst Arts produces original projects, touring events, cutting‑edge commissions and development & learning programmes, at home and with producers and artists in 33 countries around the world to date.
Thanks to funders and partners like Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, British Council and Belfast City Council, Outburst Arts now delivers a year‑round programme of salons, artist clinics, an internationally distributed annual publication (Catflap) and other initiatives that flow in and out of the annual festival, our nine‑day showcase each November.
