Brief Summary
The Story Producer is a senior creative role focused on story development, research, and execution. This role leads the creative arc of assigned stories, working closely with Project Director and the Lead Producer to ensure each project is grounded, connects to our mission, and narratively strong—from early research through distribution channels.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead story research and development for assigned projects, including identifying characters, themes, and narrative arcs.
Conduct in-depth background research, interviews, and fact-checking to support story integrity.
Collaborate with directors, DPs, and producers to shape story structure and approach.
Serve on set or in the field as a producer for assigned projects, as needed.
Support scripting, outlining, and editorial development through post-production.
Step into a directing role on select projects when appropriate.
Provide story-focused feedback on edits, ensuring clarity, emotional truth, and narrative cohesion.
Support post-production workflows for assigned projects, including review rounds and approvals.
Help prepare story materials for public release.
Creating distribution strategy for projects owned, including festivals, screenings, and partner placements.
Assist in preparing pitches, synopses, and supporting materials for distribution and outreach.
On some occasions, this may mean supporting our team to make creative assets.
Work closely with the Project Director and Lead Producer to align creative work with timelines and production needs.
Collaborate with other Story Producers, directors, and team members as projects require.
Ensure stories reflect the initiative’s values, tone, and missional commitments.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum 10+ years experience in storytelling, documentary, podcast, or narrative media.
Strong story instincts with demonstrated experience shaping real-world narratives.
Ability to work independently and manage assigned projects with minimal oversight.
Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguity, conducting independent research and sense-making in complex or abstract subject areas.
A self-starter and eager to build this new initiative.
Consistent follow-through and reliability in meeting deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and care for editorial accuracy.
Comfortable working in collaboration with a small, senior creative team.
Must be willing to abide by Fuller Community Standards.
This is a hybrid position primarily working from home with some expectation to work out of the Pasadena, CA campus.
This is a grant-funded position which may be time-limited and/or contingent upon sufficient funding. This position is expected to last through December
2028.
The hourly rate: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour USD.
