The RoleWe’re seeking a mid‑level Designer to collaborate with our team in leading and executing digital‑focused projects. This role is on an ongoing retainer basis and covers e‑commerce experiences, web/mobile apps, extending visual guidelines to new assets, and research and application of e‑commerce best practices.
As a designer at Barrel, you will ideate and execute on creative and intelligent design concepts, lead by example, and motivate team members to meet the highest standards of work.
Responsibilities- Ideate and execute on compelling design concepts
- Create conceptual and practical designs that align with client business goals, audience, and verticals
- Maintain high standards and ensure only the best work is shared with clients
- Advise clients on industry best practices when appropriate
- Accurately estimate time to complete work
- Continuously experiment with new tools and technologies
- Research and provide strategic, goal‑driven solutions for clients
- Collaborate with other designers, both in‑house and freelance
- Provide meaningful contributions to team meetings and conversations, and actively participate in client meetings and workshops
- Offer thoughtful and constructive feedback during presentations
- Mentor junior designers and interns
- Explore new tools proactively
- Use AI to improve workflow efficiency and streamline the design process
- Strong visual design aesthetic and conceptual thinking, with mastery of layout, navigation, typography, colors, and image composition for web and mobile experiences
- Meticulous attention to detail in all deliverables
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with the team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when discussing design and collaborating with teammates
- UX and UI skillset including wireframes, sitemaps, and information architecture
- Ability to articulate digital design and web terms, and speak confidently to clients about web platforms, design function and implementation
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills; able to self‑manage and prioritize tasks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality work
- Experience designing for omnichannel, including Amazon A+ Creative, email, social, and campaigns
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Graphic Design, or a related discipline
- 3–5 years of digital design experience; prior agency experience preferred
- Solid knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Webflow a plus
- Working knowledge of HTML/CSS preferred, though designers are not expected to code websites
- Solid knowledge of industry tools and understanding of designing intuitive, responsive user experiences
